The new toll of 253 deaths and 3,115 infections, provided by the director general of Haiti's health department Gabriel Thimote, represented an increase of only 33 fatalities over a 24-hour period.

Maoists strike again in Bihar
Six policemen were killed late Friday night when armed Maoists triggered a landmine blast. Among those killed, there were four Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) personnel and the driver of the jeep. Another injured SAP was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Two Taliban suicide bombers attacked the main U.N compound on Saturday 10/23/2010 in Heart, North West Afghanistan and several insurgents were inside the building. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties. Afghan troops and police were surrounding the building, a commercial hub and the largest city in the country's west.

No troops from NATO-ISAF were involved. A local Taliban commander, Mullah Bilal, claimed responsibility for the attack on behalf of the group. One fighter had blown himself up and others had entered the compound, he told Reuters. Eventually 4 insurgents were killed in the attack. A policeman and a guard were slightly injured. Last year, militants attacked a UN guesthouse in Kabul and five foreign UN staff were killed. That attack prompted the United Nations to evacuate hundreds of foreign workers.
