Trinity Church was built in 1698 with the purpose of meeting the religious needs of the locals. The current building of the church is situated in the lower Manhattan area, New York City.

History

Trinity Church had been renovated three times. It is one of the tallest buildings in Manhattan. It has a beacon, the purpose of which is to give signals to the ships reaching the New York Harbor. It was a charity school established in 1709 though it was opened for the first classes in 1754. King's college was built on church site which offered higher education. The school later became Columbia University.

The building of Trinity Church was demolished in 1776 and built again in 1790. The new Trinity Church was not constructed well and couldn't handle a snowstorm, which caused its destruction in1839. The third church was designed by the renown. Gothic Revival Architect, Richard Upjhon. The new Trinity church became a National Historic landmark in 1970.

Saint Paul Chapel is the oldest churn in New York and is located near Trinity Church. Fortunately, during 9/11 attacks, the chapel did not suffer any harm and people who were inside the church remained safe.

Community Outreach

The Trinity church has a preschool at which parents can get their children admitted. Day Care Center facility is also available at the church. Also there are John Heuss Center (charity center) for poor and St. Margaret House for senior citizens.

Music at Trinity

Concerts are organized at the church regularly. A traditional concert named "Concert at one" is held each year. Sunday service at the church is also broadcasted on the radio which you can listen by tuning in to WQXR 96.3 FM.

Visiting Trinity Church

The church can be easily accessed by public transportation including bus, subway, and taxi. As mentioned earlier, the Trinity church is situated in the lower Manhattan.

The church has a tall tower, which consists of 23 bells. The weight of the heaviest bell is around 27 CWT. 8 bells out of the total bells belong to the second trinity church. The bells are designed sophisticatedly to change the ringing rhythm. 3 more bells were added in the church later on. There was a plan to add 12 more bells in 2001 but because of 9/11 incidents, it was delayed but the task was completed in 2006. The World Trade Center is just 3 blocks away for the church. The bells ring before the Sunday service and can be heard after 11:15 AM.

Many worship services are provided in the church including Eucharist service, which is held at least once a day. There is also a museum in the church. Many articles are exhibited in the museum. It is opened at the weekends as well. During weekdays, the timing for visitors is 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM, a break of an hour and the museum is reopened at 1:00 PM.
