Interestingly, Gallic acid is individually presents in all the three herbs, responsible for its hepato protective and anti oxidant activity.

Triphala literally means three fruits. It is a balanced age old herbal formulation, comprising of equal parts (by weight) of deseeded myrobalans, namely Harad (Terminalia Chebula), Baheda (terminalia Bellirica), Amla (Emblica Officinalis). It is a unique combination having five of the six tastes. Ayurvedic text have glorified and equated the status of trifala to mother. Mother may become agitated and harm/hit the child, but trifala can never produce ill effect inside the body at any time.

Trifala balances all the doshas, viz. Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Use of Trifala is safe from childhood to old age but caution should be taken by pregnant women due to its laxative effect which may trigger abortion.
