Microsoft is facing challenges from everywhere in the technology; whether it be the phone OS or the desktop OS. In the latest Office 2010 Microsoft made it sure that it has all the required feature to give some competition to the Google team. The Google has made sure that it covers all three aspects of technology whether it be phone, desktop or the browser. Microsoft had to make sure it also covers all three to give some competition to the opponent. With the launch of SharePoint Server 2010, Office 2010 and Visio 2010, Microsoft has implemented a new approach.
In The Browser:
Microsoft has embedded the PowerPoint, Word, Excel and OneNote in the web browsers. The software has fewer features than the desktop versions but as a matter of fact they have all the necessary features required by a normal user. This step was necessary for the Microsoft as Google has already done this with Google Docs.
PowerPoint:
With the addition of the new PowerPoint video and photo editing tools, the new PowerPoint has something different to offer. Now you can edit your videos directly from the presentation instead of editing them somewhere else and then putting them on slides. Another new feature is the addition of the SharePoint feature, which has enabled use to add live streaming in the presentation. This is a unique and very effective tool.
Excel 2010:
The latest development to make the Office easily accessible through the browser has also put Excel on the web. You can easily publish your spreadsheets to the browser using the desktop software. The newly added feature like Sparklines is a threat to Google Docs. This gives user the image of the data trend inside the selected cell. The permission cans also be given and denied to other users who can access the sheet or kept away from your data.
Word 2010:
People were keen that they have the same experience of using Word at desktop and in the browser. Microsoft made sure that they document fidelity is kept as it is. The browser versions of the MS Word look exactly the same as the desktop versions. The new feature from the desktop Office 2010 that enables more than one user to edit the document at the same time is not included in the web browser application.
The browser version of MS Office has been tested on all leading browsers including FireFox, IE, Safari and they are running successfully.
