Are you worried about catching a cold this season with all the sniffling and sneezing going on around you? Well here are 10 things you can do to avoid getting sick.
1. Keep your immune system healthy
Proper diet and exercise are key components to helping keep your immune system healthy. Taking a multi-vitamin and drinking plenty of Vitamin C will also help. Some immune boosting foods to consider are garlic, ginger, tomatoes and onions.
2. Get plenty of sleep
Our bodies need rest. They are not meant to run off of 3 or 4 hours of sleep a day. Our busy lifestyles often deprive our bodies of the sleep they need. Learn to manage your time so that you can get more sleep because sleep rejuvenates your body and helps keep you healthy.
3. Drink plenty of water
Water flushes out your system removing harmful toxin from your body. Water hydrates you and helps relieve cold symptoms. Try to drink eight glasses of water a day.
4. Wash your hands before eating
Germs spread the fastest through some kind of hand contact. It is extremely important to keep as many germs away as possible by frequently washing your hands. If you don't have access to soap and water at least use a good hand sanitizer.
5. Eat a little dark chocolate every day
Dark chocolate is a powerful antioxidant and can help strengthen your immune system.
6. Exercise
Exercise is another important factor to keeping your immune system healthy. Try to get 30 minutes of physical exercise at least 3 times a week.
7. Keep warm, but not too warm
Keep your house warm enough so that you don't freeze to death, but don't keep it too warm because heat breeds germs.
8. Take warm, relaxing baths or showers
The warm water will feel good and it will also clear your sinuses.
9. Keep your feet warm
You lose a lot of heat through your feet so it's important to keep them warm by wearing socks or even doubling up on socks if you have to during the winter.
10. Wear a hat when going out in the cold
Not only do you lose heat through your feet, but you also lose it through your head.
