It is unfortunate but testimonials have become totally worthless in evaluating virtually any product that you see advertised on the internet. This is especially true in the "Work from Home" products and in the "self help products." If you are considering the purchase of any of these products, don't trust the testimonials.
One clue as to the validity of testimonials is a scientific study that was made several years ago on the value of subliminal products. A group of students were given a set of tapes with different titles on the tapes. At the end of the study fully 25% of the students were willing to gives testimonials for the subliminal tapes that they had used. The problem is that the tapes had no subliminal content. The gains that these students had gained were nothing more than placebo effect.
Another problem that you can run into with testimonials is that they may just be total fakes. You will see many glowing testimonials and at the end the signature is nothing more than a first name, last name initial and a supposed city where this person is from. How could you possibly trust this. It is highly likely that is nothing more than the work of a copywriter.
Another problem is that many internet marketers will pay for testimonials. This may be in the form of a free product or letting the testimonial writer list their own website as part of their signature. At least in this case, you may be able to contact the testimonial writer although, I am not sure that there is any value in this.
On occasion, the testimonial will come from someone who will actually leave reasonable contact information. If this is the case, try to contact that person and see if it really is a valid testimonial.
Another common technique used by marketers is a testimonial by a known guru. Why would a guru who is in the 6 or 7 figure category write a testimonial for another guru? Certainly someone making 7 figures doesn't need to use a product on how to become successful. No, but what you find here is that the gurus have made a deal. You stroke my back and I will stroke yours. There is absolutely no value to this type of testimonial but there are some names in the self help genre that simply carry a lot of respect and their endorsement gives instant credibility to any product that they promote.
I test a lot of products and I present my results on my website and blog. When I find a product that looks interesting, the first thing I look for is if the product has undergone any valid scientific testing and if those test results were published in any of the appropriate journals. The next thing I check out are the forums. There are a number of excellent forums in the self fulfillment genre and if you ask for other forum members results from a given product, you can pretty much rely on the answers that you get back. Forum members range from newbies to the extremely experienced self fulfillment experts.
So, when considering a new product or program, don't bother reading the testimonials. They are worthless and if you put any trust in them, you are going to be led down the garden path.
