When we placed the wall fountain in our home at the beginning of this year, we did not observe the effect it would bring to our granddaughter. She frequently visits and sleeps overnight at our house. What we realized was that every time she wants to read a book or to concentrate on coloring a picture, she would always approach near the fountain. It is as if she feels that she can be comfortable there. For a two year old this perception is not bad.
This was the first wall fountain that we installed. The size fitted in well into our living room, although we will be moving it into the hallway in the next few months. That is the beauty of wall fountains; you do not need any plumbing. All you need is an electrical outlet and some hanging brackets.
When we were remodeling our home earlier this year, we wanted to introduce certain criteria.
Originality
Cleaner environment
Low maintenance
Inexpensive
Relaxing
Colorful
Focal point
We decided that a waterfall would cover most, if not all, of those things that we wanted. We also heard found that there are several health benefits associated with flowing water. Flowing water gives off negative ions. Negative ions are odorless tasteless molecules created in nature with air molecules broken apart from sunlight, radiation, and moving air or water.
High concentrations of negative ions are found in nature in mountain forests, waterfalls, and beaches where people feel energized and invigorated, which helps relieve stress, alleviate depression, and boost energy.
According to Pierce J. Howard, PhD. - director of research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, N.C. and author of The Owners Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research - "Negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy,"
Positive ions make us feel tired, depressed and irritable. They are are generated by computers, fluorescent lighting and air conditioners and our house has all of those. We needed to reverse that. We cannot always go and sit by a waterfall but we can bring one into our homes as a cascading wall fountain. That is what we decided to do.
The impact our new wall fountain had on visitors was overwhelming and became a conversation piece on many occasions. The copper frame with the water flowing down the center panel was placed prominently on a vacant wall and with lights angled onto it, made for a dramatic focal point.
Installation was simple. All that was needed was to fit the brackets to the wall and connect to an electrical outlet. Maintenance is negligible.
Since our wall fountain was installed, we have noticed an improvement in our health and our sleep has improved too. This coming year, we will install a second wall fountain in our home and try to improve our health even more.
