How far off are we from becoming a Jetsons society? If you don’t know who the Jetsons are, well they are a futuristic cartoon family shown of free to air television from around the 1970′s to 1980′s. Everything is automated and by the press of a button you can get a meal, fly out on a mobile flying saucer to work, never have to walk due to moving flat floors, and have a robot wait on you for nearly every other task. By the press of a button “things get doneâ€.
With the advent of smartphones, how far off are we really from becoming this way? I remember reading the book 1984 by H.G. Wells, in the 1980′s, thinking how freaked out it would be to have big brother watching you with a camera on almost every street corner. That came to fruition years ago and it was a great prediction of what might come and seemed like fiction when it was first written.
With such devices as iPhones and Nokia’s symbian platform, we are almost at the level the Jetsons were at with these futuristic devices. We can shop online, order a pizza, book a restaurant, order a taxi and get to where we were going, book almost any service online, all by the press of a few buttons.
So, where to for the future then? Well my prediction is that in less than a hundred years, you might never need to leave your lounge room chair. Maybe the devices such as the Apple iPhone of today will advance so much that we could almost plug the device into ourselves! and have everything controlled by our thoughts. Imagine that! Thinking, I would like a pizza right now, and by just thinking it, a 3D virtual reality type touch panel would impose itself in front of us, controlled by GPS positioning, and by touching the 3D virtual reality type imposed screen in front of us, we can do such things, without actually touching any device, and maybe, just maybe, that can become a reality and delivered right to you by thoughts in your mind.
The Jetsons are already appearing to be outdated as HG WELLS 1984 does seem today, and maybe in the not too distant future this will be a reality! How far off do you think that kind of living is? We can only wait and see.
