If you're interested in beginner guitar lessons there are some practical pointers you should take note of to get you started.

Beginner Guitar Lessons Practical Pointer # 1: Make Time

Learning how to play guitar takes time, but not only that. It can be addicting, and you'll find yourself playing for hours at a time. Do you have a busy schedule? Are you willing to set aside an hour or two a day to pick up the guitar?

As with any instrument, practice takes time. A guitarist friend of mine from college that is one of the best lead guitarists I've come across told me once that to get to his level he'd play 6 hours a day, for six days a week, for six years. Now, I'm not saying you quit your job to learn. But the point is that it truly is something that will take time.

The good news is, you really won't notice the time fly because playing guitar is truly fun.

Beginner Guitar Lessons Practical Pointer # 2: Get a QUALITY Guitar

I know that in this economy, you'll want to skimp as much as possible. However, if you can afford to pay extra for a good guitar, do it. Especially if you're a beginner.

Here's why.

When you're first starting out, the tips of your fingers will be tender, not used to pressing down hard on strings to make chords. Cheaper guitars tend to have a lot of "action", which simply means the strings are high off the fret board, requiring you to put more effort with you fingers to press down. You'll not only tire of this faster, but it will start to really hurt. In time you'll develop stronger fingertips...but start out with a GOOD guitar, where the strings are closer to the fret board. Ask your music store owner for advice on this.

Beginner Guitar Lessons Practical Pointer # 3: Try an online guitar program

Not only are online guitar programs economical (saving hundreds of dollars on a guitar teacher), but practical and effective. You can get a years worth of lessons for under $ 50, presented and packaged in very effective, step by step video lessons. Some like Jamorama use clever, time effective finger-strengthening exercises that help train the muscle memory of your hands. Since they're on line they also tend to have updates to include newer, popular songs that you can learn. Look into Guitar Note Mastery or Guitar Success (just to name a few).
