The quest of a good career in India often makes the students take up as much education as is possible in one go. For most of those who pass out of the colleges as your graduates, the next choice is that of doing a MBA or an equivalent course. The business schools in India are a divided into a number of different categories. Often, a student looking to make a career in management in India will have to decide from amongst a number of these choices available to him:
1.MBA departments of the Universities: The Masters degree in management or in any other field can be offered only the universities which are duly recognised by the University Grants Commission. The MBA in India is limited to these institutes only. Other institutions might be offering the same course but they are not technically qualified to call it an MBA.
2.Private colleges affiliated to Universities: There are a number of private colleges that are affiliated to the universities and, by virtue of this, they offer the post graduate diploma courses in management to the students. Even they are not allowed to call it a degree or a Masters Degree. These are recognised by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and are allowed to offer the post graduate diplomas.
3.Non-affiliated private business schools: These business schools provide their own courses. They offer neither degrees nor the diplomas, but their own programs. Their courses or programs are not aligned to the UGC determined course of study, neither are they registered with the AICTE or recognised by it.
4.Institute affiliated to foreign business schools, offering dual degrees: With the opening up of the economy, the Indian institutes got into collaborations and mutual understanding with foreign business schools to offer the dual degrees.
5.MBA from Foreign Universities: Then there are universities which offer the MBA programs in their own campuses. They seek the students from India and urge them to take up the studies in foreign countries. The representatives from different foreign institutes come to India to pitch the sale of their MBA program.
The candidates looking to do the MBA in India shall be conversant with the type of institute with which they are enrolling. They shall take into consideration the reputation of the institutes and also the significance of their programs for the industry. It is the reputation of the institute in the industry which matters a lot. If you are looking for job in the private sector after doing the MBA, then the institute must enjoy a good repo. Similarly, care shall be taken while enrolling for foreign MBA.
The MBA in India is a post graduate two year program which offers specialisation in the different fields, usually the finance, human resource development, marketing and information technology. The key difference between the institutes is due to their faculty, their teaching methodology, the interaction with the industry, the researchers and other important persons and bodies.
