To say "I love you" is often thought to be soft and sentimental, not worthy of a strong man. Customs very in different cultures; but all humans are the same at heart. All need to know that they are loved and to hear it in one way or another.
Sometimes ignorant people will try to drive a vehicle that has no fuel in it. Even the most expensive engine will quickly burn out if no fuel lubricates its moving parts. Metal rubs against metal and gets red hot. Expressed love is the fuel that makes married people get along together with peace. Without expression, love will die. Just how it is expressed is up to you; but don't try to run your marriage engine without the needed fuel!
We humans all around the world are lost without a savoir. Billions of people are reared to be heard-hearted men and women. They know no tenderness. Cold, loveless homes produce tyrants and dictators in abundance, ready to be ruthless to anyone who gets in their way. The greatest man who ever walked this Earth was loving, and expressed His love to every Human soul whom He met. Ant yet He was strong at the same time. We need to learn His way:
Come Unto me, all ye that Labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall receive rest unto your souls (Matthew 11:28,29).
Many people despise this counsel, but they reap the results of their pride in bitterness and cold-heartedness. They may have plenty of money, but they are desperately poor in the only thing that makes for true wealth-Love. Even many "Christian" homes and communities are destitute of love. This is because they are "under the law" and not "under grace" (Romans 6:14, 15). Perhaps "Babylon" has hidden the true Christ from their view. like clouds that hide a snow-capped mountain peak. Human beings without love become worse than animals, they will not harm you unless you harm them. But an evil spirit possesses human hearts which are devoid of love, and people become demons.
The only remedy is love in the home. And the only source of true love is the love of God revealed at the Cross where the savior died for a hardhearted, cruel world. "We love, because He first loved us," says John. You and I will never in any way learn to give love unless we first receive love from Him:
"Love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God and knows God. He that loves not knows not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the Love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the World, that we might live through Him. Here in is love. not that we loved God. but that He loved us, and sent His son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:7-10). We love Him, because He first loved us (verse 19).
All terrible troubles that afflict this world come because of the simple fact that love is almost unknown. This is why citizens of many lands nearly starve for want of basic necessities of life while a few "high up" become so wealthy that they don't know what to do with their huge amounts of money. The love of God revealed at the Cross has been hidden from them. And millions of poor people are just as selfish. They just have not had the opportunity to exploit their fellow-men. All this is hard-heartedness, a lack of compassion, lovelessness in action. But the love of Christ works miracles in changing the basic attitudes of the human heart. A new principle is created from within because this new idea has entered from without. Here is how love goes to work and makes a change in the human heart:
The love of Christ constrain us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again. (2nd Corinthians 5:14, 15). Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: Old things are passed away; behold all things are become new (Verse 17).
You see! It is not fear which makes the change, it is love. If only that love were understood in our modern world, corruption in high or low places would come to an end. Each human being would seek the good or his fellow human being. We would have a heaven on Earth! Well, there is a lot of changing to be done, and guns and prisons won't do it. The little factories that are to generate this love are our homes, as drops of water in the rivers drive the hydro-electric plants that send power everywhere. In their relation to each other in the home, husband and wife are at the nuclear center of this little factory of love. Even sexual love is transformed by the love of Christ. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ Loved the Church." "How can I make my partner happy?" Is the uppermost thought, not "How can I find pleasure?" Sex becomes the beautiful thing God intended it to be.
Such love makes adultery or infidelity impossible. When Satan wants us to think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, there is a heavenly common sense born of love that enables us to see through that lie.
