I can not deny that I am a health junkie. I know what exercise may help you improve your heart/cardio, lung capacity, lose weight, build muscle and strength, increase your blood flow to your brain. You can get the most benefit if you go to the gym 3-4 times a week. Yeah, that's the tricky part, you'll have to go to the gym, lift weight and build insecurities around those hulky guys.

The good news for you is that Nintendo started its own gym chain and they called it Wii Fit. And the best part - they are bringing the gym to your home right in front of your TV. At $ 90 - $ 250 for the Wii console it's still less than the gym membership.

Nintendo released Wii in November 2006 and since it has been the hottest thing out there when it comes to console games. It's successor Wii Fit combined two worlds together - that of gamers and that of fitness maniacs. It's segment is well beyond the teenage-male fans, it attracted seniors, women and whole families. There are even physicians using it in their rehab programs for strokes recoveries. They even came up with a name for it "Wiihab".

With the Wii you could play golf, tennis, baseball, bowling and even box. What Wii Fit gives you is four core elements of fitness training - aerobics, muscle training, yoga and balance games. All of them are fun, well - most of them, and increase your heart rate, especially the aerobics, tone your muscles and develop your "core".

The most important key element in all this is the unique device Nintendo developed - the Wii Fit balance board. It kind of looks like a kitchen cutting board but in reality it is  weight-sensitive. The interesting thing is that Nintendo were inspired by watching Sumo wrestlers on TV weighing themselves on two scales. They tried this idea and noticed that it wasn't very easy trying to keep your balance even between the two scales. Not only that but they found out it was actually fun. That's how they invited Kaoru Matsui, a trainer from Japan, as an advisor.

You might thing of cheating the balance board. I'm not saying it's impossible, I even wrote an article on that, but it's a hard thing to do. It actually measures your body weight 60 times a second. It will also tell you each second how your weight is distributed.

As I said Wii combines the two worlds - you can get in shape and still be a video game junkie. One hour on the treadmill is more than boring but with Wii Fit you will always get rewarded, vocally encouraged, earn Wii points etc. And best of all - you can set goals and achieve them. And still - have fun!
