Make sure you're not sabotaging your playing with bad posture. Make sure you're not hunched over and drooping your arms. Don't be so preoccupied with posture that you look like a soldier but just be mindful of it and you will do well.If it is important to keep good posture you can imagine how important good form is for your hands. If you've ever struggled to keep pace on fast parts it is a good idea to work on hand dexterity. Make sure your hands on drooping on the keys. Only your finger tips should be touching and your arms should be up. If you even just keep these tips so far, you will improve a great deal.Relax. The most important part about music is conveying the feeling. It should not sound like it is being played by a mechanical machine. Like the human voice, the piano is capable of so many subtle nuances and variation that you really need to just relax and enjoy the song to make the most of it.

If you can succeed with this, you will find yourself getting into the flow and that creative state of mind much more frequently. The music sounds better, the experience becomes much more enjoyable and you find that you are expressing yourself through your music. It's fun when you're having fun.

Have Fun. This has a lot to do with what was mentioned above. Take the time to enjoy the view and remember why you are learning or playing in the first place. If you don't play what you like you won't spend the time practicing and if you do it will be a battle and you won't get much out of it. It shouldn't be surprising if you aren't enjoying playing anymore when you aren't playing anything you even like. You will be a success in life if you can love what you do. By all means put in the time and practice and work, but let yourself love it too. Passion creates drive every time.

Get good at the basics. Put the time in to memorize your theory. If you don't know a rest from a quarter note it will be hard. There are a lot of helps to memorizing. You can start on memorizing the basic notes.Try learning more advanced theory once you have the basics. Can you identify notes that are an octave or two above the clef? That would be a good place to start another piano lesson. If you don't you will be slowing down all the time to count the notes on the notation before playing it.

Keep your dexterity up. Nimble fingers can help you to sight read much better as your hands can follow you eyes and brain. It also helps to be consistent with your practice and the amount of time you spend. Also be consistent with your practice books and exercises.
