Some bestselling books and equally popular films have shed light on the fact that the relationship between humans and dogs reflect a very strong bond. In fact, this bond goes beyond a mere master pet relationship. It becomes one of unconditional love. Some might think such an assessment overstates the relationship between human beings and animals but it really is not an overstatement at all. Dogs and human beings have a tradition that dates back many thousands of years. Namely, humans care for their dogs and dogs respond with great loyalty in return. In many ways, dogs develop and affection for their master rooted in the appreciation they have for the master caring for them.

This often translates into a mode of unconditional love from the dog to the human master. And yes, the master can develop a level of fondness that translates into love for the dog. Probably the most common misconception is that a dog is a pet. Very few people look at their four-legged friend as just a pet. They see their dog as a member of the family. This allows humans and dogs to develop a very special bond. Frequently, the dog will take on an important role in the eyes of the human host.

In some cases, the dog will develop an unusual response (Unusual per evolution) to its human host. That response will come in the form of love and affections towards his/her human master. It is true that dogs are pack animals. They follow their alpha leader who is, of course, the human owner. In the dog's natural state, the dog is part of a pack and the pack has a leader. It is the leader that helps the dogs survive. The human owner of the dog is the protector and provider to the canine. He also lays down the proverbial law in terms of what type of behavior is acceptable.

What separates human alphas from dog alphas is that humans show love, care, and affection towards their dogs. They also have a real tendency to spoil their canines. And the dogs love this! This turns around and translates into unconditional love towards their masters.

The human masters also have a sense of love towards their dogs. As previously mentioned, human will look at their dogs as members of the family and not as pets. This means they become anything from comfort animals to surrogate children....which is a good thing! Why settle for a mere pet when you could have a loving animal that provides a close bond? Such a bond can greatly improve the overall well being of those that bring such a creature into their home.

Humans and dogs have had a relationship that has endured for thousands of years. This is rooted in the unconditional love that dogs reciprocate to their owners. Such bonds are not found with other pets which are why dogs truly are man's best friend.
