Hot summer makes hot flashes unbearable. Newsweek discussed menopause again this month. Oprah Winfrey and Suzanne Somers claim that bio-identical hormones are safe and effective for menopause symptoms.
Although the FDA warned that bio-identical hormones have no safety advantage in 2008, many menopause women still feel better about bio-identical hormones. Bio-identical hormones are synthesized from plants instead of the mare's urine (Premarin), and they sound better than synthetic hormones to many menopause women.

I find the answer by analyzing the mechanism of estrogens.
Like a key and a lock, an estrogen needs an estrogen receptor to function. So far, estrogen receptors are found in more than 350 sites in the body, and they distribute from the brain to the vagina. So, during menopause when estrogen levels decline, you feel changes in almost every part of the body, such as fuzzy thinking, mood swings and vaginal dryness.
When you take estrogen pills, no matter they are synthesized from plants or the mare's urine, no matter their chemical structures have changed or not, estrogens are looking for estrogen receptors in your body immediately.
Since breasts have a lot of estrogen receptors, breast swelling is the first side effect, when you take hormone therapy for menopause treatment. If you take estrogen pills for long time, other organs will be stimulated by them too.
Not surprisingly, the women's health initiative study found that hormone treatments increase risks in many parts of the body, such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, heart disease, blood clots and more in 2002.
