Years ago, there were only 3 major networks broadcast all across the country. Those three National Networks were NBC, CBS, and ABC. Those networks are still in existence and have some of the most compelling primetime dramas, but there are now more than two hundred and fifty channels available on television. NBC has really branched out and has many cable channels like ShopNBC, CNBC, CNBC World, and msnbc. ABC, which is owned by the Disney Corporation, also owns all of the Espn Networks, and the ABC family channel. CBS has branched out to create a channel dedicated to broadcasting college sports. Aside from these major networks, there are hundreds of new channels that have been created in the past few years that will appeal to anyone's fancy.
Dorothy was a 93 year old woman who lived alone in the house her late husband had built. Over the years, she had seen the television programming change a lot. She gradually became more and more fed up with the things she was able to watch on television. In the end, she was limited to just watching the local news at night because nothing else interested her. Her neighbor told her about satellite television and suggested that there would certainly be something on the TV that she would like. She asked her son if this was something she should get and he definitely agreed with the neighbor.
Soon she was connected and had two hundred channels at the tip of her fingers. She considered most of the television garbage because it wasn't like the classics she remembered. As she was flipping through channels on her remote control she discovered TV Land created by Nickelodeon. She was so excited at this discovery because she was able to watch old shows like M*A*S*H, I Love Lucy, and Gunsmoke just to name a few. Another great feature was that she had access to all the local channels in High definition. This was great because at 93 years old, Dorothy's vision had begun to diminish.
Dorothy was also very lonely and she had been very happy when her grandchildren would come and spend the night with her. Now they were grown up and now she was a great grandmother. She really loved it when her grandchildren started bringing their children over to spend time with her. Given her age she wasn't as nimble as she had been before. She could no longer go out and play street hockey with the kids, and her license had been taken away for driving down the wrong side of the road. She was able to entertain them with the satellite television that they didn't have at home.
Dorothy would let the kids search through all the favorite channels on the television. They particularly like the Nickelodeon Channel, Disney Channel and the Cartoon Network. She would let them relax in the living room after lunch and watch television and that usually led to a nap and Dorothy had a little peace and quiet for a while. She was happy that both she and her great grandchildren were entertained with the satellite television.
