A sudden stampede on Koh Pich’s north suspension bridge in Phnom Penh has killed at least 375 people and wounded another 755 people on the last day of Water Festival. An official investigation insight into the tragedy has initially acknowledged that the panic set off when a crowded bridge started swaying. The disaster may have turned into the saddest corner of Cambodia. The Prime Minister of Cambodia announced a day of mourning on Thursday for the victims. However, there are fears that death toll will rise in a few days because emergency workers in Cambodia are still searching for bodies at the footbridge.

People look for their missing relatives through pictures in Calmette hospital.

On the final day of Water Festival, many Cambodia people and tourists were excited about going to the Koh Pich to watch to view the last event. The only connection between the island and Phnom Penh is the narrow suspension bridge which always has heavy traffic. There may be a group of young people fighting. The bridge was the exit only, with a knee-height chain across the entrance to keep out motorbikes, flanked by policemen. Then, everybody began to crush on the direction to the land.

A man is trying to find his younger sister.

Some eyewitnesses said some people of the million gathered in that area panicked when someone said that the bridge was not safe. It was complete chaos, nobody knew what to do. With no other escape route, people were reported to try to climb onto the bridge, grab and pull loose cables. After the Cambodia stampede, families begin seeking for their missing relatives in each hospital. However, the searches seem hopeless because there are so many missing people in the footbridge and the river.
